Step into a world where myth and nature were one.

How did ancient people live as part of the natural world? Who were the mysterious figures of Finnish folklore known as the “high masters of Koli” and the “dark-breasted men of Mustarinda”? And why was Koli once called Mustarinda?

On this immersive storytelling journey, you’ll explore these questions and more—venturing deep into the mythical landscapes of ancient Finland.

In the forests of old, humans were inseparable from their surroundings.
Nature was not just scenery—it was survival, spirit, and meaning. Animals and unseen beings alike were woven into everyday life in ways that may feel almost unimaginable today.

During this two-hour guided walk through the timeless landscapes of Koli, you’ll travel alongside stories and myths. Along the way, you’ll discover elements of ancient Finnish mythology, learn traditional incantations, and pause to reflect on a worldview born in the heart of nature itself.

Your guide is Kaarne Karjalainen from Retkipaikka—a passionate expert in local history who brings the past vividly to life.
